Sharpening Hand Tools

Many woodworkers are intimidated by the idea of sharpening their hand tools. This task really isn't as difficult as it might seem. Approached with some patience, and armed with some basic information, it's really a matter of practicing. Knowing doing irreversible harm isn't likely, makes it somewhat less intimidating.

With so many options available, it becomes somewhat overwhelming trying to decide which sharpening device, or method will provide the best results, most easily. Since there are many different tools requiring a very sharp edge for wood workers, the method chosen will need to be adaptable, or at least have accessories to provide versatility.

Choosing A Jointer

Choosing a jointer is not a very complicated process. Jointers range is size from a minimum of four inches, then six, then eight, then twelve, then sixteen inches. A good rule of thumb when buying a jointer, is to buy as large a machine as you can afford, without sacrificing quality.
